For months, the focus of Penn State fans has been on spring practice and the Blue-White game following the Nittany Lions’ 35-21 win over No. 8 Utah in the Rose Bowl to conclude the 2022 season. With spring ball winding down and the spring game fast approaching, Penn State fans’ attention is shifting to 2024 recruiting, and for a good reason. On Friday, the Penn State football team received two predictions to land ESPN five-star QB Michal Van Buren of Maryland.

A lot of attention is focused on quarterbacks in Happy Valley right now. This spring, Penn State football has two rising sophomore quarterbacks battling it out for the starting role on the 2023 squad: Drew Allar and Beau Pribula. Head football coach James Franklin says the job is still up for grabs between the two immensely talented underclassmen, and the battle has become a significant offseason storyline for the program and its fans.

On Friday, more quarterback-related news came Penn State’s way; this time, in the form of recruiting insight. Earlier today, two Rivals recruiting experts placed “FutureCast” predictions for the Nittany Lions to land Michael Van Buren, an ESPN five-star quarterback from St. Frances Academy in Maryland.

Van Buren is one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in the 2024 recruiting class; with Michigan and Ohio State both landing/targeting their five-star quarterbacks, Michael Van Buren has become a must-get for Penn State football in this recruiting cycle.

According to ESPN, Micah Van Buren is a five-star quarterback and is ranked as the No. 10 player nationally, the No. 2 quarterback in the class and the No. 1 player in Maryland. Before the Michigan Wolverines landed Jadyn Davis, he garnered much attention from Jim Harbaugh and Co.

On top of Rivals’ FutureCast, the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine gives the Penn State football team the best odds of landing the five-star’s commitment with a 40% chance. Behind Penn State are the Maryland Terrapins (23.4%), the Rutgers Scarlett Knights (6.9%), and the Oregon Ducks (5.8%).

Yesterday, Van Buren took his sixth visit to Penn State football, and on June 16th, he will take his 7th total visit and first official visit to Happy Valley. It’s looking like the Nittany Lions could land their next major quarterback prospect, who could eventually become Drew Allar/Beau Pribula’s successor in the Blue and White.
