High schools across Pennsylvania return to the gridiron this week. For Pine-Richland, that includes star wide receiver and Penn State football commit Khalil Taylor.
On Monday, the WPIAL ruled that Taylor would be eligible to play for Pine-Richland this fall after transferring from Seton LaSalle. However, the four-star pass catcher will not be able to partake in the postseason, as PIAA rules preclude immediate participation for transfers who switch schools after their sophomore year.
Last month, Taylor transferred out of Seton LaSalle, citing safety concerns following the murder of his cousin. His father was a resident of the Pine-Richland School District prior to the decision. The move will present the future Nittany Lion with an increased level of competition, bumping up from PIAA Class 2A to Class 5A.
Taylor is the No. 32 prospect in the 2027 recruiting cycle, according to On3/Rivals.
Penn State finding early 2027 success in Western PA
Despite being early on in the 2027 recruiting cycle, James Franklin and Penn State football are already seeing great success with an elite crop of in-state talent.
Earlier this week, the Nittany Lions earned a commitment from Imani Christian defender Gabe Jenkins. The pickup was the program’s third in-state commitment in the cycle, all three coming from Western Pennsylvania.
All four of Penn State’s commitments in the class are ranked inside the top 100 by at least one major recruiting service. As a result, the Blue and White currently have a comfortable lead on the nation’s top recruiting class, according to 247Sports.
