This morning, the media was able to speak with Penn State senior safety Keaton Ellis, who has been with the Nittany Lions throughout all of the program’s ups and downs since his true freshman season in 2019. Now, for the first time in his career, Keaton’s team will be led by a new quarterback on offense: rising sophomore Drew Allar, who is the talk of the town ahead of Penn State’s Blue/White game this Saturday.

According to Ellis — who has seen his fair share of college football and opposing quarterbacks — Allar is standing out during spring ball and has loads of potential.

The Drew Allar era starts in 2023

Since committing to Penn State football as the No. 1 QB recruit in the country for the 2022 cycle, Drew Allar has been one of the most-hyped players in the nation. After sitting behind former starting quarterback Sean Clifford during Penn State’s Rose Bowl-winning campaign in 2022, the Drew Allar era will officially begin this Saturday at Beaver Stadium for the Blue/White game.

Many reports have been flying around about how talented Penn State’s rising sophomore Drew Allar is, and Keaton Ellis reinforced that on Thursday morning.

When asked about what he has seen from Drew Allar thus far in his career (and during the spring), Keaton Ellis had a lot to say about the Nittany Lions’ young quarterback.

“You got a glimpse of it last year,” Ellis said, “the kid can make all throws. That’s the biggest thing; to be that big and mobile enough to, you know, create plays for the offense — I am really excited about him.

“His ceiling is so high,” Ellis continued. “I just can’t wait to see him compete.”

While there is still a quarterback battle taking place in Happy Valley as we speak, it is assumed that Drew Allar will get the starting nod on September 2nd when the Penn State Nittany Lions host their Week 1 opponent — West Virginia — at Beaver Stadium in State College, PA.
