In just under 190 days, the Nittany Lions will return to action on the football field at Beaver Stadium. On September 2nd, Penn State football is slated to kick off its 2023 schedule with a massive rivalry-like game against the Big 12’s West Virginia Mountaineers.

Recently, as teams around the nation are gearing up for spring practices and more, FanDuel released a few early betting spreads for many college football teams. Among these spreads is Penn State’s odds for their bout with WVU; and let me tell you, things aren’t looking good for the Mountaineers.

Penn State football set to open 2023 season with WVU

The last time Penn State football and West Virginia met was in 1992 when Joe Paterno’s Nittany Lions went into Morgantown, WV, and took home a 40-26 win. Over the years, the PSU-WVU series has seen some iconic games; however, the series itself has not been too competitive. The Penn State Nittany Lions lead the all-time series with the Mountaineers with 48 wins, nine losses, and two ties.

This season, over 30 years after the two teams last met, they will kick off the season by giving the series life again.

Nittany Lions favored by nearly 20 points

According to FanDuel’s early betting odds, the Penn State football team is currently an 18.5-point favorite to take down West Virginia in the season opener. Only time will tell, but from the looks of things right now, the Nittany Lions are looking extremally dangerous this season and, frankly, should cover this enormous spread.
