During this window, many Penn State football fans are crossing their fingers that players will stay at Penn State. That wish has come true in this case on Friday, as veteran defensive tackle Hakeem Beamon has announced that he will return to the Nittany Lions for the 2024 season. He had the opportunity to enter the NFL Draft but decided to put his pro career on hold to continue to develop in State College.

Hakeem Beamon joined the Penn State football team in 2019. Coming out of high school, he was a four-star prospect in the 2019 recruiting class and chose the Nittany Lions over UNC, Alabama, and several other Power 5 programs. Beamon started to shine during the 2020 season where he collected 7 tackles.

He missed the 2021 season, but in 2022 he had a career year with 16 tackles. After a long college career filled with highs and lows, Beamon has decided to return for the 2024 season instead of declaring for the NFL draft.

Beakmon kept his message short and sweet on social media, simply writing, “I’m back.”

Leadership required on the defensive line

Adisa Isaac and Chop Robinson have been the vocal leaders on the defensive line. With both players off to the NFL, the Nittany Lions need other players to step up and be the voice of reason in 2024.

Players such as Zane Duant, Coziah Izzard, Hakeem Beamon, and Dvon Ellies have an opportunity to be that voice.

Liam Andrews, who is one of the top incoming freshmen in the 2024 recruiting class, will need veterans to look up to, and he should have no shortage at his disposal.
