Penn State's Chop Robinson (44) celebrates with his teammates after recording a tackle for loss in the second half of an NCAA football game against Rutgers Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, in State College, Pa. The Nittany Lions won, 27-6.

Penn State football star Chop Robinson has declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. The decision, expected by many for some time, comes days after the Nittany Lions accepted an invitation to play in the 2023 Peach Bowl. The star EDGE rusher will not join his teammates in Atlanta, however. Instead, Robinson will prepare for the NFL Combine and Draft.

Few players have made a bigger impact in a shorter amount of time at Penn State than Chop Robinson. The Maryland transfer burst onto the scene last season, quickly becoming one of the best EDGE rushers in college football.

Coming into the season, Robinson was already expected to be a first-round NFL Draft pick in the spring of 2024. That was only solidified with his play on the field this fall. A first-team All-Big Ten selection, Robinson finished 2023 with 7.5 tackles-for-loss, the third most on the team. Robinson had 15 total tackles on the season but was a force in the backfield all year, despite missing two games due to injury.

But now, Chop Robinson is off to the NFL Draft. Robinson finished his Nittany Lion career by thanking the Penn State football coaching staff, teammates, and fans.

“To my coaches and teammates, I will cherish the memories we have made and the lessons we have learned together,” Robinson said on a social media post this afternoon. “I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by men who exemplify what it means to be hard-working leaders, and for that, I am grateful.”

“To the Penn State fans, thank you from the bottom of my heart for accepting me with open arms and making these past two years the best years of my life. I will always cherish our time together and your unwavering support through the many ups and downs is something I will be eternally grateful for.

Robinson becomes the first Penn State football player to declare for the NFL Draft, and the first to opt out of the Nittany Lions’ bowl game. The Nittany Lions will certainly miss Robinson’s defensive impact against the high-powered Ole Miss offense. The attention now turns to fellow EDGE rusher Adisa Isaac and CB Kalen King, among others on the defensive side, as we await their Draft decisions.

Penn State football takes on Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl on December 30.
