The Penn State football team has three sources of players on its roster. First are the players that James Franklin and his staff have recruited those players are on scholarship. Then, there are additional scholarship players who play for the Nittany Lions but they joined the team via the transfer portal. Finally, you have preferred walk-on players who are not on scholarship but are doing everything they can to potentially earn one down the road. These players are crucial to helping the team prepare for each game. Now, the son of former Penn State linebacker Mark D’Onofrio, Thomas D’Onofrio has officially received a preferred walk-on offer from Penn State.

Mark D’Onofrio is the current linebackers coach for the Stanford football team. But prior to his coaching career, he was a stud linebacker for the Penn State football team. D’Onofrio played for the Nittany Lions between 1988-1991. Then, he was drafted in the second round of the 1992 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. Unfortunately, his NFL career was short-lived due to injury. Fast forward to the present day and his son Thomas D’Onofrio has just announced that he was offered a preferred walk-on opportunity with the Nittany Lions.

Thomas D’Onofrio plays safety for Middleton High School in Middleton, Wisconsin. He holds one scholarship offer from the Toledo Rockets. It will be interesting to see if he will follow his father’s legacy and play football at Penn State.
