Due to the extra year of eligibility from the COVID-19 pandemic, Dvon Ellies had a decision to make. He could declare for the 2024 NFL Draft or use the extra year of eligibility to return to the Penn State football team. Ellies has decided to return for the 2024 season. This is a massive boost for 2024 considering that the defense will look very different with how many players have already declared. Especially in the secondary for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State football veteran defensive tackle will return in 2024

Defensive tackle Dvon Ellies has officially announced that he will return to Penn State for the 2024 season and forgo the NFL Draft. Ellies recorded 4 tackles in the Peach Bowl against Ole Miss where his presence was felt. He stuck true to his word from last week during his media availability where he wanted to play in the Peach Bowl and then make his decision. Tonight he confirmed that decision on social media.

Dvon Ellies joined the Penn State football team as part of the 2019 recruiting class. Ellies was a four-star prospect and ranked as the No. 3 player in Maryland. He chose Penn State over Ohio State and USC. Ellies has had a very successful career with the Nittany Lions and has a big decision to make. He has accounted for over 20 tackles this season where his strength is stopping the run.

The 2024 Penn State defense

This defensive unit that will be led by Tom Allen will look very different in 2024. Kalen King, Johnny Dixon, Daequan Hardy, Chop Robinson, Adisa Isaac, and Curtis Jacobs will all be in the NFL next season which brings the next-man-up mentality.

In the Peach Bowl, the youth in the secondary was on full display as that’s where Ole Miss took advantage. The young corners felt a step behind all afternoon. But with a player like Ellies choosing to return to Penn State next season, the Nittany Lions have a chance to have a solid defensive front.
