This week, the 2024 Penn State football recruiting class received a boost with the addition of Eagan Boyer, a three-star composite offensive tackle hailing from Cornelius, NC. Boyer is considered one of the top regional offensive linemen and brings both size and skill to Penn State’s already impressive top-5 2024 recruiting class. His commitment is yet another crucial addition to the Nittany Lions’ offensive line. Here are our observations from Boyer’s tape and notes on this promising Penn State football commit.

Penn State football recruiting: Notes on offensive line commit Eagan Boyer

Eagan Boyer is a promising offensive tackle in the 2024 recruiting class, standing at an impressive 6-foot-8 and weighing 260 pounds. Despite being rated as a consensus three-star recruit by every outlet, many experts believe that he is one of the more underrated prospects in his class. On3’s Industry Rankings place Boyer among the top 600 recruits nationally, with a ranking of No. 38 among offensive tackles in the class and No. 16 in the state of North Carolina. The 247 Sports composite rankings also rank him highly, placing him in the top 50 offensive tackles nationwide and among the top 20 recruits in NC.

Rivals seems to be particularly impressed with Boyer, ranking him as the No. 42 offensive tackle in the country and the No. 14 overall recruit in his state. Boyer plays his high school football at William Amos Hough High.

Film study: What stands out about Eagan Boyer?

We took the time to review Eagan Boyer’s junior year tape from the 2022 season, and what stands out the most is his impressive mobility and weight distribution. One of the most desirable traits in an offensive line recruit is the ability to finish blocks, and Boyer excels in this area. He also shows the ability to escape to the second and third levels of the defense and act as a lead blocker.

Boyer frequently demonstrates fast hands and solid footwork, although there is always room for improvement. However, he possesses raw talent and intangibles that suggest he will thrive at the college level. He is an assertive pass blocker but also displays good judgment and avoids overcommitting, which is a positive sign for a young lineman heading into his final year of high school football.
