This morning, the Nittany Lions landed their third offensive line commit in the 2024 recruiting class, adding four-star offensive tackle Garrett Sexton out of Wisconsin. Sexton’s commitment is huge for Penn State football, and it highlights something that has been in the works for a while now: the Nittany Lions are thriving when it comes to offensive line recruiting.

Penn State football: Offensive line recruiting is on the upswing

One main component of football that has haunted James Franklin throughout his nine years as Penn State’s head coach has been his offensive line. Despite having some of the top skill players in the nation — such as running back Saquon Barkley — Penn State football still had issues winning the battle upfront. Now, with new offensive line coach Phil Trautwein, that appears to be changing, and the Nittany Lions are proving it on the recruiting tail.

So far, in the class of 2024, Penn State football has assembled the No. 7 class nationally. That being said, the Nittany Lions have an impressive streak going with offensive line recruiting; thus far in the cycle, Penn State has locked down three four-star linemen and counting.

This morning, four-star offensive tackle Garrett Sexton — the No. 30 offensive tackle in the nation per 247 Sports — committed to Penn State football. He joins two other top-end four-star offensive linemen: Cooper Cousins (No. 9 IOL) and Donovan Harbour (No. 8 IOL). Sexton’s commitment officially gives Penn State three top-60 offensive line commits in the 2024 class, all of which are some of the most sought-after linemen in the nation for this cycle.

The 2024 recruiting class is coming together well for the Nittany Lions thus far. Throughout the remainder of spring and summer, keep an eye out for even more top-end talent to join Penn State’s elite recruiting class. The class has 11 hard commits thus far — seven four-stars and four three-stars.
