There is no hotter division in college football than the Big Ten East when it comes to the 2024 recruiting trail. Penn State, Michigan, and Ohio State, are all ranked in the top 10 according to 247 Sports, though with yesterday’s QB commitment for the Buckeyes, the pressure is now on the Nittany Lions to land an elite 2024 quarterback recruit. While Penn State is keeping up in the sense that its class is ranked in the top 10, both the Wolverines and Buckeyes rank in the top-5 and have already landed elite quarterbacks to this point.

Michigan, Ohio State both have landed an elite 2024 quarterback recruit thus far

On March 31st, the Michigan Wolverines landed one of the top quarterbacks in the 2024 recruiting class: 247 Sports five-star Jadyn Davis from North Carolina. Yesterday, the Ohio State Buckeyes landed one of their own with four-star Air Noland from Georgia.

So far, Michigan football boasts the No. 2 class in the country, while Ohio State boasts the No. 4 class. Penn State is the next Big Ten team in line with the No. 9 class after landing four-star athlete Quinton Martin earlier this week. Still, with recent elite QB pick ups from Michigan and Ohio State, the pressure is now on James Franklin’s team to land a top-tier quarterback of their own.

The good news for Penn State football recruiting

While Michigan has Jadyn Davis and Ohio State has Air Noland, the Penn State Nittany Lions are closing in on an elite 2024 quarterback recruit of their own: Michael Van Buren of Maryland. Most outlets have Van Buren as a four-star, though he is rated as a five-star by ESPN and ranked as the No. 2 quarterback in his recruiting class.

Van Buren just took his sixth visit to Penn State last week and currently has his official visit scheduled for April 16th; his commitment date is set for July 8th, and the Nittany Lions are currently favored to land him in their 2024 recruiting class.

Still, until Van Buren announces his commitment to the Blue and White and makes it official, Penn State football is feeling the pressure to land a 2024 quarterback due to recent massive commitments for Michigan and Ohio State.
