Despite currently having a top 10 class and being ranked No. 6 in the composite rankings, James Franklin and his Nittany Lions still have some serious work to do for the 2024 recruiting class. At present, their Big Ten East rivals, Michigan and Ohio State, have already secured commitments from major quarterback prospects, while Penn State has not. With Michael Van Buren seemingly leaning towards other options, Penn State football has been actively extending new offers to potential recruits. Among these new targets is Tyler Cherry, a 6-foot-5 four-star quarterback from Indiana, known for his strong arm and precision.

Tyler Cherry received his Penn State football offer on Wednesday of this week. He has already emerged as a prominent target for several Big Ten programs, with offers from Indiana, Illinois, Michigan State, Purdue, and even Pitt.

Cherry’s most notable attribute is his imposing 6-foot-5, 210-pound frame. Heading into his senior year of high school, the fact that he already possesses such a substantial size, with potential for further growth and added weight, bodes well for his future. Additionally, Cherry’s talent is highly regarded, as he is rated as a four-star quarterback prospect by On3. He currently holds the No. 226 national recruit ranking, is ranked as the No. 13 quarterback in his class, and is the No. 3 overall recruit in the state of Indiana.

Hailing from Greenwood, IN, Tyler Cherry appears to have the Indiana Hoosiers as the frontrunners in his recruitment. He has already made visits to five Big Ten campuses, but is yet to visit State College, PA, the home of Penn State. The coaching staff will likely prioritize arranging a visit over the summer in order to gain an advantage in their pursuit of this promising 2024 quarterback target.
