If you follow Penn State football recruiting, then by now, you’re probably familiar with the rise of Ethan Grunkemeyer. Committing to the Nittany Lions as a three-star, Grunkemeyer ascended the recruiting rankings this summer to become one of the top QB prospects in the country. And the Penn State QB commit continues to rise. After an impressive start to his senior season, Grunkemeyer is now a top 100 prospect nationally in the latest 247Sports rankings update.

Penn State QB commit now in the top 100 of national 2024 recruiting rankings

The last 5 months have been something special for Ethan Grunkemeyer. Committing to Penn State football in May, the Olentangy (Ohio) QB thoroughly impressed national scouts at the Elite 11 prospect camp in June.

But the Penn State QB commit has done more than just look good throwing on air. Grunkemeyer’s sensational play has continued on to the field this fall. Through 7 games, Grunkemeyer has completed 68% of passes for 1,663 yards and touts a 19-5 touchdown-to-interception ratio, according to recruiting expert Ryan Snyder of On3.

This play hasn’t been lost on the national scouts. In a recruiting rankings update released by 247Sports on Thursday, Grunkemeyer has now become a top 100 national prospect. The Penn State QB commit climbed 102 spots, from the No. 200 overall player to No. 98. Grunkemeyer is now the No. 2 player in Ohio and the No. 7 QB in the class of 2024.

Rapid rise of Ethan Grunkemeyer is nothing new

The ascension of Ethan Grunkemeyer is impressive, even if it is becoming commonplace. 247Sports ranked Grunkemeyer as the No. 991 overall prospect as recently as May 10. When he committed to Penn State football on May 20, Grunkemeyer was the No. 415 overall prospect nationally.

But 247Sports isn’t the only outlet that’s high on Grunkemeyer. The Penn State QB commit climbed over 150 spots into the On300 recruiting rankings in July. Grunkemeyer is now rated No. 137, according to On3.

It’s safe to say those in Grunkemeyer’s inner circle aren’t surprised by his ascension. “He wasn’t even on the freaking radar at this time last year. Never. Stop. Working!” said Brad Maendler, the personal coach for Grunkemeyer and current Penn State QB Drew Allar.

Even though he’s now among the elite prospects in the nation, Ethan Grunkemeyer has been standing out among this group for quite some time. As the high school football season continues, there’s no telling just how high the Penn State QB commit will climb come National Signing Day.
