Penn State football fans are just settling in to the Drew Allar era in Happy Valley. But there’s another soon-to-be Nittany Lion signal caller that Penn State fans are starting to gush over. Since committing to James Franklin in May, Ethan Grunkemeyer has been making noise on and off the field. The Penn State QB commit did it again with another highlight-worthy performance on Friday night.

Ever since committing to Penn State football in May, 2024 QB Ethan Grunkemeyer has been on what can be described as a meteoric rise. Grunkemeyer thoroughly impressed scouts at the Elite 11 QB camp in June, which was quickly followed by a rapid rise up the recruiting rankings.

A four-star prospect, Grunkemeyer is currently the No. 9 prospect in Ohio and the No. 10 QB in the country, according to On3. However, the Penn State QB commit is making a case to be elevated even higher with his on-field play this season. Grunkemeyer started the year with almost 300 passing yards and three touchdowns in Olentangy High School’s season opener.

As the season has progressed, Grunkemeyer continues to get attention on social media. One of his biggest advocates is his QB coach, Brad Maendler, who is also the personal coach of Drew Allar. Maendler frequently posts highlights from Grunkemeyer’s games on Friday evenings.

But Ethan Grunkemeyer is turning heads on the national stage as well. Last night, On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power was impressed with what he saw from the 2024 Penn State QB commit.

With 24 total commits, Penn State football currently sits with the No. 10 recruiting class in the nation for 2024, according to 247Sports.
