Ex-Ohio State WR, top Penn State portal target visiting Big Ten foe

The Penn State football community has been excited about a potential homecoming. Julian Fleming from Pennsylvania spent the last several seasons with the Ohio State Buckeyes. But he recently entered the transfer portal, which made many believe that the potential for a homecoming was real. But the news today could make one believe that Penn State is further away from landing Fleming than once thought, as reports suggest he is expected to visit Nebraska this week.

The Nittany Lions are rather desperate to gain new talent on the offensive side of the ball. Specifically at wide receiver, but after a strong season from Drew Allar and a new creative offensive coordinator in Andy Kotelnicki, many thought Penn State would be an attractive destination in the transfer portal. But so far that has not been the case, other than a few visits no one has committed.

It was reported by On3 that both Julian Fleming and former Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord were on campus visiting Nebraska earlier today. Further reporting from Pete Nakos clarified that the visit is expected to take place this week. It would make sense that Fleming wants to keep his quarterback, someone who he is familiar with and who also played high school football in Pennsylvania.

Nothing is set in stone as far as a commitment goes, but it’s frustrating that Penn State has not been able to be a more popular destination for wide receiver talent. It’s still early in the transfer portal window, but the Nittany Lions need a major overhaul of their wide receiver room.

Adding a former five-star like Julian Fleming could take the offense to the next level. But the question becomes, can the Nittany Lions offer more than Nebraska?
