Georgia wide receiver Zeed Haynes (13) warms up before the start of a NCAA college football game against Ball State in Athens, Ga., on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023.

The Penn State football team is still in desperate need of upgrades at the wide receiver position. Many within the Nittany Lion community expected the team to be active in the transfer portal, and so far, they have been. Offering several different players and hosting others for visits. Still, at this time, Penn State has yet to officially land any playmakers. Could that change soon? Last night, former Nittany Lion commit Yazeed Haynes entered the transfer portal from Georgia. A possible homecoming is certainly possible.

Yazeed Haynes had an interesting recruiting timeline. He attended North Penn High School in Fort Washington, PA. There, he went to work earning a four-star ranking, according to 247sports. He was ranked as the No. 2 player in Pennsylvania in the 2023 recruiting class, so what happened?

Well, he did choose the Penn State football team at first. He committed to James Franklin and the Nittany Lions on June 12th, 2022. But that commitment lasted less than two months, as Yazeed Haynes decommitted on July 25th. The rest is history, two days later he committed to Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs.

But over the weekend, Haynes chose to enter the transfer portal.

Why a homecoming makes sense

People will be split on topics like this, and that’s okay.

Some will feel that Haynes didn’t want Penn State before, so why should we give him another look? Well, my opinion is that the Nittany Lions are in no place to hold grudges. They need to add weapons as quickly as possible to make this offense pop in 2024. He only secured one catch for 20 yards in his lone season with the Georgia Bulldogs. Will James Franklin look for a reunion here?
