As spring wraps up and summer ball comes to the forefront of the college football world, major recruiting powers are starting to get hot on the recruiting trail. Penn State football recruiting is one of these major powers and currently boasts the 6th-ranked class nationally and 3rd-ranked class in the Big Ten for the 2024 cycle; the Nittany Lions will be looking to climb back into the top-5 soon and could do so with another major four-star commitment. Today, Caden Brown — the No. 1 recruit in New York — released his final four programs, and Penn State made the cut.

Penn State football is now one of four remaining schools in the running for Brown’s commitment — all four schools reside in the Big Ten. Along with the Nittany Lions are the Maryland Terrapins, the Michigan State Spartans, and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Penn State football recruiting is a finalist for Caden Brown, the top recruit in New York

The Nittany Lions are known for being one of the best regional recruiting powers in the nation, constantly locking down top players from Pennsylvania and along the east coast. Right now, one of the top regional recruits that Penn State football is targeting is Caden Brown, an On3 four-star EDGE in the 2024 recruiting class, who is one of the top east coast players still on the market.

According to On3’s rankings, Brown is a four-star recruit and is ranked as the No. 220 recruit in the nation, the No. 20 EDGE in the class, and the No. 1 recruit in New York. The 247 Sports composite is not quite as high on Brown as On3 is, yet still ranks him as the No. 2 recruit in the state of New York and more.

According to the Recruiting Prediction Machine, Penn State football has the second-best odds to land Caden Brown in the 2024 class. Rutgers is currently in first place according to the RPM, though when it comes down to it, not many top-ranked four-star recruits end up playing home games in New Jersey. There is no commitment date set thus far, though this could be a massive addition to the Penn State football recruiting class, and is a major name to watch for Nittany Lions fans in the coming months.
