Top 2025 Penn State football QB target sets commitment date, names PSU a finalist

The Nittany Lions are currently in search of a quarterback recruit in the 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes. Earlier this week, Cutter Boley, one of the best QB recruits in the class, announced his top 10, and PSU made the cut. The top-ranked Penn State football quarterback target now has a commitment date set, and it’s fast approaching.

Top-ranked Penn State football quarterback target announces commitment date, named PSU a finalist

The finalist field for Cutter Boley is extensive, totaling ten teams, although Penn State football is among the final two Big Ten programs in the running.

The other contender is the Michigan Wolverines, who already have a five-star QB committed in the 2024 class and appear to be primarily focused on Bryce Underwood as their top 2025 QB prospect. On top of that, Penn State is one of four teams listed as “warm” per 247 Sports.

Recently, the Nittany Lions’ recruiting efforts in the quarterback department have not been going well. Penn State is currently facing challenges with Michael Van Buren, their top QB target, and doesn’t seem to have much momentum elsewhere at the moment. However, James Franklin and the coaching staff are likely to turn things around over the summer, so there’s no need to worry about PSU recruiting just yet.

In the 2025 class, Penn State football currently boasts a top-3 national ranking; the addition of Cutter Boley, a four-star quarterback and a top 75 recruit nationally, could significantly improve their class. Boley is set to make his commitment on May 18th at 11:00 AM.

Who is Cutter Boley?

Cutter Boley, an outstanding four-star quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class, has garnered recognition as a prominent talent according to his composite rankings. Nationally, he holds an impressive ranking at No. 72 and is regarded as the sixth-best quarterback in the country. Notably, he is also hailed as the top recruit in his home state of Kentucky. Penn State football’s inclusion in Boley’s top 10 represents a significant achievement for their recruiting efforts, especially considering the challenges they faced in pursuing Michael Van Buren, another notable quarterback prospect.

In addition to Penn State and Michigan, Boley is actively considering offers from Alabama, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Miami, Florida State, Tennessee, TCU, and Oregon. While the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine currently favors Kentucky as the leader in his recruitment, there are a number of teams (including the Nittany Lions) that are still considered contenders.
