STATE COLLEGE, PA — James Franklin and Penn State football found themselves in another top schools list this week, as the Nittany Lions are a finalist for talented 2024 receiver Elijah Moore. Penn State is having a monster week on the recruiting trail and continues to gain momentum in the class of 2024.

Lions Crack Top-10 for Talented 2024 Receiver

Elijah Moore is a top-20 overall player from the state of Maryland in the class of 2024. The 6-4 190-pound Good Counsel prospect is rated as a four-star by Rivals and a three-star by ESPN, 247 Sports, and On3.

On Tuesday, Moore released a list of his top 10 schools via social media, which found the Nittany Lions pitted against some of college football’s biggest powers. Penn State is one of five finalists from the Big Ten, including Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Maryland. Moore also listed the big three schools from the Sunshine State – Florida, Florida State, and Miami – along with Oregon and Texas A&M.

Penn State is the Leader to Land Moore

Penn State has made serious inroads with Moore since his junior day visit in January. As a result, the Lions are currently the leader in landing his talents. On3 currently gives Penn State a 54% chance of receiving a commitment from the Maryland prospect. The next closest school is Ohio State, which has a 17% chance of landing Moore. The remaining Big Ten schools – including in-state Maryland – each have less than a 2% chance, according to On3.

While Maryland is viewed as a recruiting hotbed for the Nittany Lions, it would not be insignificant for Penn State to get Moore. Moore has been recruited by Brian Hartline at Ohio State, who has a reputation for developing wide receivers. Ohio State has had five receivers drafted into the NFL in the last five years compared to Penn State’s two. Landing Moore would be a significant win for new wide receivers coach Marques Hagans

Gaining Momentum

Overall, Penn State is having a tremendous week of recruiting in the 2024 cycle. The Lions have found themselves in several finalist lists, most notably for top 2024 quarterback Jayden Bradford. Penn State is also the favorite to land another top receiver, Jerrae Hawkins of IMG Academy. Of course, the Lions remain the leader to land Quinton Martin, the No.1 overall player in Pennsylvania for the 2024 cycle.

As spring ball gets underway and Penn State’s visitor list grows, we’ll see if James Franklin and staff can carry this momentum into the summer.
