Saturday was a special day on the Penn State calendar because of Blue/White weekend, though for James Franklin, it also marked the beginning of a chaotic recruiting period. Last weekend, the spring transfer portal window began, meaning any last-second transfer moves will be made over the coming weeks. This week, it was reported that Penn State football is targeting a new transfer portal defensive end, Anthony Campbell from UL-Monroe, to add to the team’s depth ahead of the 2023 season this fall.

According to head coach James Franklin, Penn State football has a short list of needs in the transfer portal: wide receiver, defensive tackle, and a difference maker at any position. Right now, the Nittany Lions have yet to address the first two, though two transfer portal offers have been reported as coming from Penn State.

Yesterday, the Nittany Lions offered a transfer portal offensive lineman out of Wyoming. Penn State football is now targeting Anthony Campbell, a transfer portal defensive end who could help with the team’s depth along the defensive line this year.

Campbell saw action in one season with UL-Monroe (2022), recording 13 tackles, one pass deflection, one sack, and one forced fumble a season ago. He is currently listed as a rising junior and boasts an impressive 6-foot-7, 285-pound frame that could be beneficial along the Nittany Lions’ Big Ten defensive line. Expect more offers to come soon as Penn State’s attention shifts from spring ball to summer camp in the coming weeks.
