STATE COLLEGE, PA — Today, the top-ranked player in the state of Pennsylvania took his eighth visit to Happy Valley. James Franklin and his Penn State football program have been hot on the trail of four-star athlete Quinton Martin, and according to Martin himself, the program has been doing a great job making him feel important. At this point in his recruitment, it feels safe to say that Penn State is starting to close in on the top recruit in Pennsylvania.

Penn State football is closing in on the top recruit in Pennsylvania right now

According to On3, Quinton Martin is a four-star running back prospect in the 2024 recruiting cycle. Additionally, Martin is ranked as the No. 99 player in the country for this recruiting cycle, the No. 5 athlete in the class, and is the top recruit in Pennsylvania. As Penn State’s widely-known recruiting slogan goes, “The best in PA, stay in PA,” so it comes as no surprise that the Nittany Lions are making a strong push to get him in the Blue and White by the end of the cycle.

So far, three college football programs have gotten more than one visit from the elite 2024 athlete: Ohio State (2), Pitt (4), and Penn State football (8). As you can see, his interest definitely lies in Happy Valley; now it’s up to the staff to close out and land his commitment.

Martin claims he loved most recent visit to Penn State

According to Blue-White Illustrated, Quinton Martin loved his most recent visit to State College to see James Franklin & Co.

“Coach Terry [Smith] also made it very well-known that I was a priority,” Martin said. “He showed me their defensive core and who they have coming back there. Coach Seider was going over their running back information. He was really getting me into the rhythm of what it’s like to play college football. But the majority of the day was us just chilling with my whole family.

“Coach Franklin has been making it well-known that I’m one of his top priorities,” Martin said. “But there’s also no pressure on me to make any kind of decision. He just wants me to do what I think is best for me.”

The 2024 recruiting class is still fairly young, though at this point, Penn State football is starting to slip behind some other Big Ten powerhouses such as Michigan and Ohio State, who have been hauling in many top commitments as of late. Still, the Nittany Lions have a good amount of time, and especially in the case of Quinton Martin, Penn State football appears to have a comfortable lead.
