Today, more good news came for the Nittany Lions on the recruiting trail — this time, it involves a currently committed player. Penn State football QB commit, Ethan Grunkemeyer, who was initially a lower-ranked three-star quarterback when he first pledged to the Blue and White, has been upgraded to a four-star in the newest 247 Sports rankings update. This upgrade doesn’t come as a surprise, considering the standout QB’s impressive performances against major national competition over the past few weeks.

Penn State football QB commit Ethan Grunkemeyer upgraded to four-star in new rankings

Today, Penn State football QB commit Ethan Grunkameyer received a significant upgrade in the 247 Sports rankings and the composite rankings, earning four-star status. His recent performances in major national competitions like the Elite 11 have solidified his position as one of the nation’s top quarterbacks, competing alongside other highly rated four and five-star players.

Initially, Grunkemeyer was a three-star recruit when he committed to Penn State, which led some fans to express dissatisfaction, comparing him to four-star recruit Michael Van Buren. However, James Franklin’s keen eye for talent is proving to be successful, as Grunkemeyer is now ranked as a top 200 prospect.

According to the latest 247 Sports rankings, Ethan Grunkemeyer is a four-star quarterback commit, occupying the No. 200 spot nationally, the No. 13 quarterback in the 2024 recruiting cycle, and the No. 8 recruit in the state of Ohio. It’s worth noting that Drew Allar, a three-star QB recruit from Ohio, also committed to Penn State and later became a five-star recruit and the No. 1 quarterback in his class when he signed with the Nittany Lions.

This recent development is excellent news for Penn State football fans, concluding the month of June on a high note. It further demonstrates James Franklin and the Nittany Lions’ exceptional ability to identify and attract top talent.
