The Penn State football team is attempting to bolster its wide receiver room this offseason. The Nittany Lions have been active in the transfer portal, offering several FBS wide receivers in December. They have also hosted a handful of players for visits to State College to show them what Penn State has to offer. Now, the Nittany Lions turn their attention to former Miami Hurricane WR Colbie Young, who has been confirmed to be visiting Penn State this week.

Listed at 6’5, 215 pounds, wide receiver Colbie Young has the frame and size you are looking for in a No.1 WR option on offense. The other part that makes him an intriguing Penn State football prospect is his experience. Young has already played three seasons of college football. He spent the past two with the Miami Hurricanes, but he started his college football career at Lackawanna Community College, so Pennsylvania is a place he is familiar with.

When he was transferring from Lackawanna after the 2021 season, Penn State was one of the schools that offered him at that time. Now, he will return to campus as the No. 5 wide receiver currently in the transfer portal, according to 247Sports. And the Nittany Lions are hopeful he will commit to James Franklin.

Colbie Young is from Binghamton, NY, so playing football at Penn State puts him significantly closer to his family.

Lack Life ties

In today’s era of the transfer portal, relationships are important. Especially relationships that were built by recruiting one player. Even if that player didn’t commit to your school initially, you never know when they might come back around. Lackawanna Community College has been a football pipeline for Penn State. Producing great players such as Jaquan Brisker, Ji’Ayir Brown, and JB Nelson.

Those relationships matter between coach and player which should give James Franklin a leg up this weekend. If the Nittany Lions can secure Julian Fleming, who holds a crystal ball to PSU, and Colbie Young, their wide receiver room will look very different in 2024.
