Tulsa kicker Chase Meyer (91) kicks an extra point during the fourth quarter in a game against Florida Atlantic at FAU Stadium on Saturday, October 7, 2023, in Boca Raton, FL.

The Penn State football team has been active in the transfer portal since December. Several players have posted on social media about offers they received, and others have taken visits to State College. It doesn’t appear that Penn State is going to slow down anytime soon in this capacity as another transfer portal member has commented that he he currently visiting PSU. This is former Tulsa kicker Chase Meyer.

Place kicking has been an area that the Penn State football team has tried to figure out over the past few seasons. With Jake Pinegar holding down the position in 2022. But, after he declared for the NFL Draft, the Nittany Lions brought in Columbia walk-on Alex Felkins. No one had high expectations for Felkins in 2023, but he exceeded all of them. He took over the placekicker role late in the 4th quarter of the first game against West Virginia and never looked back. He finished the 2023 season going 14-27 on field goal attempts and 39-39 on extra points. The only issue is, that Felkins is a redshirt Senior.

This is where Chase Meyer makes sense to bring depth to the room but also someone with experience.

More on Chase Meyer

Meyer is entering his junior season in 2024. He spent his freshman year with UPenn so he is familiar with the Pennsylvania area. During his freshman campaign, he was primarily a kickoff specialist and decided to transfer to Tulsa ahead of the 2023 season. At Tulsa, he showed that he was one of the elite kickers in college football. He connected on 17-20 field goal attempts (85%) with his long coming from 47 yards away. He also made 30 of his 31 extra-point attempts. If the Nittany Lions want consistency at the position in 2024, adding Chase Meyer would certainly help.
