During the dog days of summer, while people are waiting for college football to return, it’s not uncommon to see a “hot take” or two from various media outlets. But this writer for Action Network is a firm believer that the Penn State football team and Drew Allar could do some serious damage in 2023. With all of the talent on this Nittany Lions’ team could Drew Allar lead them to the college football playoff? If he does, that will certainly help his argument to win the Heisman Trophy.

Major Media outlet makes bold claim about Penn State & QB Drew Allar

On Tuesday morning the New York Post posted on social media that “2023 College Football predictions: Penn State’s Drew Allar will win Heisman.” This of course raised some eyebrows as although the Penn State football team is expected to do well this season, to say Drew Allar will win the Heisman in his first year as a starter, that is certainly a bold statement.

The article was written by Tanner McGrath of the Action Network and his argument is legitimate. McGrath stated, “If Allar plays excellently and the Nittany Lions win the Big Ten or make the College Football Playoff, he’ll be in the conversation for best player in college football.”

To be fair that is a Heisman Trophy storyline, a team that has been close to the top of the sport but hasn’t reached the college football playoff suddenly is able to do so because of their five-star sophomore quarterback. Drew Allar currently has a 25/1 odds to win the 2023 Heisman Trophy according to McGrath.

Penn State has the roster talent to make this happen

Even if Allar doesn’t win the Heisman the other pieces of McGrath’s argument add up. They have the talent to compete with the best teams in the Big Ten conference, a strong defense, a great offensive line, a dynamic duo at running back, and playmakers all over the field. If Penn State can knock off Ohio State and/or Michigan and find themselves back in Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship game, this season will be one to remember for a long time.
