Although the 2024 version of “The Game” may not have the College Football Playoff implications it has in recent years, Saturday’s matchup between Ohio State and Michigan still carries great significance for Penn State football. Not only could the outcome on the field send the Nittany Lions to Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship Game, but the atmosphere in Columbus could also impact the program’s 2025 recruiting class.
The newest member of the Nittany Lions’ 2025 class, Warren G. Harding (OH) defensive end Chaz Coleman has been on the Buckeyes’ radar for some time. But now that has developed into bonafide interest, as 247Sports is now reporting the four-star edge rusher will visit Ohio State this weekend.
Coleman committed to Penn State football after his official visit for White Out weekend earlier in November. Lower-ranked by several recruiting outlets, he is rated as the No. 8 prospect from Ohio and the No. 19 edge rusher in the 2025 cycle per On3.
Ohio State’s interest in Coleman has accelerated in recent weeks, coinciding with a shuffling of the deck for Ryan Day and Larry Johnson at the defensive end position. The Buckeyes offered the new Nittany Lions pledge last week, two days after four-star Imhotep (PA) edge and one-time Penn State target Zahir Mathis decommitted from the program.
Tuesday’s news of Coleman’s upcoming visit comes hours after Ohio State lost a second defensive end commitment. Earlier in the day, IMG (FL) four-star London Merritt announced that he was reopening his recruitment.
Whether holding on to Chaz Coleman or pursuing someone else, the clock is ticking for James Franklin and Penn State football. Early National Signing Day is one week from tomorrow, December 4.
