Kirk Herbstreit LOVES Penn State in 2023

While Michigan and Ohio State are at the top of the preseason Big Ten rankings, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit is a firm believer in Penn State in 2023.

After a long 7 month offseason college football returns. With that, ESPN’s College Gameday has also returned to our TVs which makes Saturday mornings even better. During the first edition of the show in 2023, the crew went through each conference and reviewed each team. When they got to the Big Ten they spent a good chunk of time speaking about Michigan and Ohio State. But, once they spoke about the Penn State football team, Kirk Herbstreit had a lot of optimism for the Nittany Lions this fall.

In the week 0 edition of College Gameday Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, and Kirk Herbstreit took the set in Bristol, CT. Of course with the in-studio, the atmosphere is very different. Instead of breaking down all of the week 0 matchups, the crew went conference by conference to review each of the favored teams. Once they reached the Big Ten Kirk Herbstreit had this to say about Penn State.

Herbstreit said “And I think there’s (Drew) Allar I mean everyone’s excited about what he can do. Highly talented recruit, actually out of Ohio but there’s Nicholas Singleton, I mean they’re loaded, just loaded. And I think their defense is going to get back to being nasty. They got guys that can rush the quarterback.”

It’s no secret that Herbsteit has a lot of respect for the Penn State football team. Each season he speaks about them with respect, which I admire. Also, you have to remember his son, Chase Herbstreit was on campus this summer for a camp in State College.

Could Kirk Hebstreit’s son end up a Nittany Lion?

Just a few months ago Chase Herbstreit was on campus for a summer camp and he was able to stand out. Not because of his last name, but because he was impressive when throwing the football. Like his father Kirk, Chase is a quarterback and is a member of the 2025 recruiting class.

If Penn State can finish this season strong and Chase continues to impress during his high school career, it is possible that he could end up in the Blue and White.
