James Franklin opens up on the 12 team College Football Playoff

If the College Football Playoff expanded to 12 teams in 2023, Penn State would likely be in it. But that’s not the case, the Nittany Lions will have to work towards that in 2024 and James Franklin recently commented on the expanded playoff model and how that will help Penn State.

It’s always next year for Penn State football. But the reality is college football is going to drastically change next season. Those changes will only help James Franklin and the Nittany Lions to expand their post-season aspirations. But after another 10-win 2-loss season, you could only imagine what this team could do in the expanded College Football Playoff if it had been a year earlier. James Franklin commented on this after the Michigan State win Friday night.

James Franklin comments on the 12-team College Football Playoff

The new model will only help the Penn State football team moving forward. It feels like the Nittany Lions are playing their best football right now, and it would’ve been interesting if this team got into the College Football Playoff in 2023. This is a dangerous team, and anything can happen in college football. James Franklin spoke on this possibility and his thoughts on the 12-team playoff.

Franklin said, “I think there’s data if you go back and say how many times if there was a 12-team playoff would we have been in. So, I think just looking at that statistic and where we are going to finish this regular season depending on the College Football Playoff Rankings, I think we’d be in it. And I think we are playing our best football now. So, it’s good to be trending at the right time. But that’s for next year. This year we played good enough to win 10 games and hopefully get a New Year’s Six Bowl game and play well in. I think that is more challenging than it has been in the past. With all of the things that are changing in college football in the last 5 years. But, again I’m proud of it.”
