Now that the 2023 regular season is officially over, the Penn State football team must wait until selection Sunday. Next Sunday afternoon, the Nittany Lions will find out their postseason fate. After another 10-2 season, James Franklin is optimistic that Penn State will be selected to play in a signature bowl game. But one college football analyst, Andy Staples from On3, believes that the Nittany Lions will be left out of the New Year’s Six bowl selection.

College football analyst leaves Penn State out of NY6 prediction

As the Nittany Lions await their fate over the next week, the most up-to-date bowl predictions are available. Penn State fans might want to ignore the one that Andy Staples posted on Sunday afternoon. He does not believe the Nittany Lions will be selected for a New Year’s Six bowl after their 10-2 season.

The other odd part about his prediction is that he doesn’t see 10-2 Missouri in that selection, either.

Andy Staples has Oklahoma and Ole Miss jumping ahead of Penn State and Missouri to secure NY6 bowl bids. I do not see this happening, but it is interesting to consider that the Nittany Lions could miss out on an opportunity.

James Franklin is hopeful Penn State gets a New Year Six Bowl

Following the 42-0 victory over Michigan State, James Franklin spoke about the possibility of playing in an NY6 bowl game. The Nittany Lions most recently won the 2022 Rose Bowl over Utah.

When asked about the opportunity, Franklin said, “So, I think just looking at that statistic and where we are going to finish this regular season depending on the College Football Playoff Rankings, I think we’d be in it. And I think we are playing our best football now. So, it’s good to be trending at the right time. But that’s for next year. This year we played good enough to win 10 games and hopefully get a New Year’s Six Bowl game and play well in.”
