James Franklin: Son of ex-Penn State football player is ‘must get’ prospect in 2025

The 2025 recruiting class continues to take shape, and the Penn State football team looks to add more talent. Not only is it important to keep the best players in PA in PA. But it’s a separate mission to recruit and take care of those who have Penn State legacy ties. Michael Carroll checks both boxes and was on campus last weekend, and the message James Franklin shared with him goes to show how much of a priority Carroll is for Penn State.

James Franklin believes this Penn State legacy is a “must get” 2025 prospect

Michael Carroll is the son of former Penn State football linebacker Michael Carroll Sr. Carroll Sr. played for the Nittany Lions in the late 1990s under head coach Joe Paterno.

Now, his son, Michael Carroll, is a rising prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. He is currently listed as a four-star recruit, according to 247sports. He attends Central Bucks East High School located in Doylestown, PA. Carroll was on campus this past weekend, and James Franklin made sure he knew how important he was to the future of the Nittany Lions.

Carroll told Brian Dohn of 247sports, “They talked about how much they wanted me and how Coach (James) Franklin said I am a “must-get” prospect for them.”

Manny Diaz offers Penn State legacy prospect

Another Penn State football legacy prospect Anthony Sacca appears to be in a unique position. Former Penn State defensive coordinator Manny Diaz has offered Sacca a scholarship offer to Duke.

James Franklin has a fight on his hands with this prospect one that may go down to the finish line in the 2025 cycle.
