It was only a matter of time before Trace McSorley found another NFL home. The former Penn State football quarterback played for the New England Patriots during the preseason before being cut during the 53-man roster trim. That has not stopped McSorley from working towards his next opportunity in the NFL. Recently, McSorley was on Penn State’s campus ahead of the 2023 White Out game as an honoree captain; however, he left State College early for an NFL workout with the Cincinnati Bengals. Now he has found a new home with the Chicago Bears.

It was first reported by NFL Insider Jordan Schultz that former Penn State football quarterback, Trace McSorley has been signed to the Chicago Bears practice squad. The news broke on Tuesday afternoon, it felt like it was only a matter of time before he found a new NFL home. Most recently he had a workout with the Indianapolis Colts after Anthony Richardson injured his shoulder, but the Colts decided to go in a different direction.

McSorley was drafted in the 6th round of the 2019 NFL draft and has craved out a lengthy career. He looks to continue that journey in Chicago.

What led to this signing?

Former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields is the traditional starter for the Bears. But, he was injured in this past Sunday’s game against the Vikings. It has been reported by NFL Insider Ian Rappaport that Fields suffered a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand. If Fields cannot go on Sunday, Tyson Bagent will start for the Bears.
