The Penn State football community handles players who transfer out of the program very well. It’s uncommon to see the general support of those who leave the team you have fandom for. Especially, when the the one memory of this player was, to say the least, an ugly moment. That’s where former Penn State QB Ta’Quan Roberson found himself after the 2021 season. But after that year, he found a new home with the UConn Huskies and he has taken his game to the next level.

Ta’Quan Roberson joined the Penn State football team in 2019 and waited his turn to see the field. He saw his first real playing time in clean-up duty against Ball State in 2021 where he threw a touchdown pass to Theo Johnson. He was slated as the Nittany Lions’ QB No. 2 but later that season he was thrown into action and was not prepared for the moment. On the road at Iowa in 2021, Roberson struggled to even get a snap off without a false start penalty and ultimately was unable to deliver. He was admirable following that game, speaking to the media when he didn’t have to and answering some tough questions. That showed the maturity this young man had.

That’s why it’s great to see him have the success he has had in 2023 with his new team. Last season he won the starting job for UConn, but in the first game of the season, he suffered a season-ending knee injury. To start the 2023 season he was listed as the backup quarterback for UConn; however, once starter Joseph Fagnano went down with an injury Roberson stepped in and never looked back. He accomplished an impressive school milestone over the past two games. He is the first UConn quarterback in school history to have back-to-back games completing 70% of his passes throwing for more than 200 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Through 4 games this season, Ta’Quan Roberson has thrown for 970 yards for 7 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Although it didn’t work out at Penn State, it’s great to see the former Nittany Lion get his opportunity and shine in the spotlight.
