The quarterback competition continues into game week as the Penn State football team has yet to name a starter. That competition is between Drew Allar and Beau Pribula, who both players enrolled early in January of 2022. Now, as they are in their fourth install of Mike Yurcich’s offense, the game has slowed down. On the one hand, Pribula brings athleticism and unscripted plays, while on the other hand, Allar has the arm talent and size of a more transitional passer. At the end of the day, there can only be one winner, but that won’t define the relationship these two players have.

In the latest edition of Next Up with Adam Breneman, Penn State quarterback Beau Pribula joined the show. The two discussed his recruiting process, NIL, and various other topics. But it was most interesting to hear Pribula speak about his direct competition with Drew Allar.

When speaking about the relationship with Allar, Pribula said, “It’s been really good. We came in together as early enrollees two Januarys ago, and we’ve been together ever since then from the start. You know, first of all, he’s a really great guy… we have our professional side and we have our friendship side. And I think we do a great job balancing that. You know, but, having him a very talented guy, I think it’s just iron sharpens iron. We only make each other better.”

It speaks to the type of players that Mike Yurcich and James Franklin recruit. You hear stories about different QB rooms across the country and that there is jealousy or no willingness to help. To hear both players say they have a genuine friendship is super encouraging. That shows you regardless of who wins the Penn State football QB competition, they will have each other’s back either way.
