Attendance will always be a bragging right of the Penn State football team. Obviously having one of the venues in college football certainly helps. But the Nittany Lions have had tremendous attendance all season long. It started strong against West Virginia when the announced attendance was 110,747 but who knew that would be surpassed weeks later. For the 2023 Whiteout game, Penn State had the second-largest crowd in Beaver Stadium history 110,830. With those two games under their belt, it was recently announced that the Nittany Lions lead the country in average home game attendance in 2023.

Through the first 7 weeks of the 2023 college football season, the Nittany Lions currently lead the nation in home game attendance according to the NCAA. Penn State is averaging 110,051 fans per home game this season, at a 103% capacity rating. This will likely not last long as the UMass game could take a dip in statistics; however, the Nittany Lions faithful will be eager to get back in Beaver Stadium for homecoming.

Behind Penn State are Michigan, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, and Florida to round out the top 10 schools. It’s interesting that three Big Ten schools lead the way in attendance this season. But it should come as no surprise as that’s the heart of college football.

Penn State will get another chance a bulk up their attendance numbers when they host Michigan in November. If both teams enter that matchup undefeated Nittany Nation will want to sell out Beaver Stadium even if the game is at noon. I think the other element that has helped Penn State early this season is they’ve had two-night home games which typically drives more fans.
