The Penn State football team is picking up a lot of steam on the 2024 recruiting trail, recently landing one of the top defensive backs in the 2024 class. The Nittany Lions now have six commits in their 2024 class, most of which are four-star recruits.

Jon Mitchell is a four-star cornerback in the 2024 recruiting class — he is ranked as the No. 61 player in the 2024 recruiting class, the No. 8 cornerback in his class, and the No. 9 player in the state of Florida according to On3. Penn State footbal had to beat out a number of top programs from the south — including Florida State, Miami, Mississippi State, and others — for Mitchell’s commitment. He is a product of Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, FL, and boasts a 5-foot-11, 170-pound frame heading into his senior year of high school.

Even though Penn State football is know as ‘LBU,’ landing four-star cornerback Jon Mitchell adds to a series of massive defensive backs that have passed through Happy Valley. Soon enough, the Nittany Lions may establish a new reputation for defensive back production, with stars like Joey Porter Jr. and Kalen King passing though the program as of late.
