James Franklin and Penn State football closed out June on a high note, earning one final commitment for the month on Friday night. The Nittany Lions landed three-star DL De’Andre Cook, one of the top prospects out of the Washington, D.C. area. With Cook’s decision, Penn State has now received seven commitments in June, with several more possibly on the way to start July.

DL De’Andre Cook commits to Penn State football

De’Andre Cook is a three-star DL recruit who plays his high school football at the Friendship Collegiate Academy. Cook is rated as the No. 4 overall player out of Washington D.C. for the 2024 cycle, according to both 247Sports and On3. Cook chose Penn State over Boston College, North Carolina, Rutgers, and Oklahoma, among other schools.

Cook visited Rutgers and North Carolina earlier in the month before visiting Penn State on the weekend of June 16. Following his trip to Happy Valley, three insiders at 247Sports, including national recruiting expert Brian Dohn, placed predictions for Cook to become a Nittany Lion. On3 followed shortly thereafter. Cook traveled to Boston College to close out his month of official visits, but it wasn’t enough to sway him from Penn State.

More on the way for the Nittany Lions?

The commitment of De’Andre Cook caps off an extremely strong month of recruiting for Penn State. The Nittany Lions landed seven prospects and are currently in the top 10 of the 2024 recruiting rankings according to Rivals, On3, and 247Sports.

There are several more commitments of note to keep an eye on for the start of July. Another three-star DL, Deyvid Palepale, is set to choose between USC, Penn State, and Michigan tomorrow. Four-star edge prospect Jaylen Harvey is predicted to land at Penn State on the 4th of July. Nick Marsh (WR) and Benedict Umeh (DL) are announcing their decisions next weekend in two commitments that were expected to fall positively for Penn State but have recently taken a turn against the Nittany Lions.
