According to Caesars Sportsbook, one of the top sports betting sites, Penn State football has the third-best odds to claim the 2023 Big Ten title, trailing behind the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines. However, CBS Sports claims that the Nittany Lions have the “best value” to win this year’s Big Ten Championship game.

It may not seem like it, but we are now heading into year 10 of the James Franklin era of Penn State football. In year nine, the Nittany Lions entered the year unranked but climbed their way through the rankings to a No. 7 overall finish following a dominant 14-point win over Utah, the PAC-12 champions, in the 2023 Rose Bowl game.

The Nittany Lions’ success throughout the 2022 season has generated a new wave of immense hype, surpassing what fans have seen in quite some time, especially under James Franklin. Currently, Penn State football is seen as a Big Ten title and College Football Playoff contender, despite facing one of the top 15 toughest schedules in 2023. If Penn State can play its cards right, including potentially defeating Michigan in mid-November and winning other expected games, the Nittany Lions could live up to this hype and secure a new title.

Penn State football enters the new season with +650 odds to win the 2023 Big Ten title, ranking third in the Big Ten behind the division’s other two powerhouses: Michigan (+175) and Ohio State (+200). However, a recent CBS Sports report suggests that Penn State is the “best value” pick in the conference.

“We’ve seen what Penn State can do when it has one of the league’s top quarterbacks.,” CBS Sports reporter Tom Fornelli wrote. “Penn State also has potential No. 1 overall draft pick (tackle Olu Fashanu) and a defense that will once again be one of the league’s best.”

While Penn State football may not be the current favorite in the race for the 2023 Big Ten title, the Nittany Lions offer great value for your wager and still have a strong chance of winning the conference championship for the first time since 2016. The team’s roster and coaching staff are highly capable, and despite a challenging schedule, the Nittany Lions are in a favorable position at the moment.
