Penn State football is gearing up for a crucial period in high school recruiting, with the upcoming month of June expected to be exceptionally busy as the Nittany Lions kick off official visit season. Exciting news broke today as the Nittany Lions secured a notable recruiting win: Jeremiah Smith, a highly coveted five-star Ohio State commit, is now scheduled for an official visit with Penn State.

Five-star Ohio State commit locks in major official visit with Penn State football

Penn State football currently holds an impressive top-6 national recruiting class. However, as the summer approaches, the team is determined to close the gap with Michigan and Ohio State on the recruiting front. The competition in the Big Ten East is intense, with Michigan ranked first and Ohio State second, while Penn State sits closely behind at sixth.

Although James Franklin isn’t known for securing tons commitments during the spring, the Nittany Lions are poised for a promising summer. The momentum could kick off in a big way if they can make a significant impression on Jeremiah Smith, a five-star wide receiver committed to Ohio State since last December.

This visit carries tremendous importance for Penn State football. Firstly, the team has yet to secure a wide receiver commitment in the 2024 class. Additionally, it presents a unique opportunity to sway a high-priority target away from Ohio State. Smith’s first trip to Happy Valley is crucial, and James Franklin must ensure it leaves a lasting positive impression if he hopes to have any chance of landing him.

Jeremiah Smith is highly regarded according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He holds a unanimous five-star rating from all four major recruiting services and is ranked as the second-best recruit in the 2024 class, the top wide receiver, and the premier prospect in Florida.

While the odds may seem slim for Penn State football, getting him on campus is the crucial initial step, and the subsequent pieces of the puzzle will fall into place accordingly.
