Today, Penn State football secured a pair of 2024 commitments — both three-star players — that the Nittany Lions have been pursuing for quite some time. Xavier Gilliam, the most recent addition to the 2024 class, is already thrilled to be a part of the program and is looking forward to getting to work in the Blue and White.

Penn State lands new commitment from three-star EDGE Xavier Gilliam

Xavier Gilliam, the newest Penn State football commit, has been a highly sought-after prospect for head coach James Franklin and the staff for quite some time. The Nittany Lions have maintained a consistent lead in his recruitment, and today, on day three of the official visit season in State College, Penn State solidified a new commitment. Gilliam becomes James Franklin’s 16th hard commitment in the 2024 class and brings a much-needed significant presence off the edge.

According to the 247 Sports rankings, Xavier Gilliam is a three-star defensive end from Wilde Lake High School in Maryland. He is ranked as the No. 43 defensive end in the class and the No. 18 recruit in the state of Maryland. Gilliam is already excited to start working in the Blue and White.

Not long after his commitment, Gilliam had a chance to express his initial feelings on Penn State football and his future with the program.

“I’m not going to lie,” Gilliam said, according to Brian Dohn. “As soon as I told coach [James] Franklin I was committing, I felt a weight lifted off my chest. It feels so good to have the opportunity to go to a school like Penn State. I am so blessed. I feel so motivated right now to put in more work.”

The enthusiasm surrounding being a part of the Nittany Lions is what makes Penn State football so exceptional, and it plays a significant role in the extraordinary nature of the 2024 recruiting class.

During the initial weekend of official visits, Penn State has already secured commitments from two of their top prospects in the class. If this trend continues, James Franklin and his staff could experience an incredible streak of recruiting victories throughout the rest of the summer. One thing is certain: the 2024 recruiting class is shaping up to be exceptional for the Blue and White.
