Jerrae Hawkins Jr. is currently a top priority recruit for the 2024 Penn State football recruiting class. This four-star wide receiver hails from IMG Academy in Florida, but he also has ties to West Virginia. According to the On3 RPM, Hawkins is currently leaning towards choosing the Nittany Lions. However, a new contender emerged this week: Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Official visit season is almost here, which means the Penn State football coaching staff will undoubtedly be looking to secure a few more commitments in the 2024 class. Currently, the Nittany Lions have 13 hard commitments, placing them sixth in the national composite team rankings.

One of the top remaining targets for Penn State football recruiting is four-star wide receiver Jerrae Hawkins, hailing from West Virginia and a product of IMG Academy in Florida.

According to On3’s industry rankings, Hawkins is the 183rd recruit in his class, the 30th wideout, and the 32nd recruit in the state of Florida. Hawkins holds great importance for Penn State, particularly because the team has yet to secure any committed wide receivers.

The positive aspect for Penn State football in all of this is that Alabama has entered the picture relatively late. However, it’s worth noting that Nick Saban’s influence should not be underestimated, as he has a way of swaying prospects. Nonetheless, Hawkins has strong connections to the Penn State region, and few programs can compete with James Franklin and his Nittany Lions when it comes to official visits. While the Alabama offer is something to consider, there is no immediate cause for concern among the fans.
