The Nittany Lions’ basketball program is going through some major changes right now, and on Monday evening, the hits just kept on coming. Moments ago it was announced that Kebba Njie — Penn State’s four-star big man from the class of 2022 — has entered the transfer portal following the exit of former head coach Micah Shrewsberry. The move is a massive blow for Penn State basketball, who is now down to two scholarship players remaining in the roster heading into next season.

The Nittany Lions had a great season in 2022-23 under former head coach Micah Shrewsberry, though the celebration was short-lived seeing as Shrewsberry bolted for Notre Dame before the NCAA tournament had come to a close. Last week, the Penn State basketball program officially hired Mike Rhoades, a PA native who has seen success at every stop, though the move was not enough to stop the bleeding.

On Monday evening, the Nittany Lions lost one of three remaining scholarship players left from Shrewsberry’s Penn State basketball team: former four-star big man Kebba Njie, who shinned during Penn State’s most recent season.

During his only season in the Blue and White, four-star big man Kebba Njie — a power forward out of La Lumiere School in Indiana — posted some solid numbers for a freshman. All said and done, the 247 Sports composite four-star big man shot 52% from the floor and managed to snag some key rebounds, leading to some massive wins over Northwestern and others. His presence will be missed at Penn State, and leaves yet another opening for Mike Rhoades to fill ahead of next season.
