Today, during Penn State’s infamous Blue/White spring game, some major recruiting news came the Nittany Lions’ way. Amidst all of Saturday’s fanfare, a new crystal ball has been placed for Penn State football to land four-star running back Corey Smith, who is one of the top-ranked running backs in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Penn State football lands massive crystal ball for top-ranked 2024 running back

Penn State football is without a running back in the 2024 recruiting class (Quinton Martin is listed as an “athlete”). Still, that has not stopped the Nittany Lions from landing one of the nation’s best classes to this point; according to 247 Sports, James Franklin has assembled a top 10 class to this point, and appears to be trending with several significant recruits. On day one of Blue/White weekend, 247 Sports’ top insider — Steve Wiltfong — placed another giant crystal ball for Penn State to land one of the country’s top recruits.

Corey Smith, a four-star running back from Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha, WI, is now projected to commit to the Nittany Lions. Smith is rated as a four-star recruit by all four primary recruiting services, even ranking as the No. 1 player in Wisconsin according to Rivals.

According to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Smith is the No. 206 player in the nation, the No. 14 running back in the class, and the No. 3 player in the state of Wisconsin. This would be a massive addition to the Nittany Lions’ 2024 recruiting class as we head into the remainder of spring development and throughout summer workouts. Penn State’s class is already remarkable, though it could become elite with this significant pickup.
