One of the greatest assets to the Penn State football team is star running back Kaytron Allen. Everyone was excited to see Nicholas Singleton get to campus last season, but few had the same excitement for Allen. But after last season, it’s clear that it’s not just the Nick Singleton show. Both players have developed an extremely productive one-two punch for the Nittany Lions. Now, in a recent interview, Kaytron Allen opens up about the background of his nickname “Fatman.”
Where did the nickname “Fatman” come from for Kaytron Allen?
Recently, Adam Breneman has been making his way through the star players of the Penn State football team. By having them join his show Next Up with Adam Breneman, the Penn State community is able to gain insight into these players. He invited Kaytron Allen onto his show for Allen’s very first podcast interview. The two spoke about several topics but one that stood out to me was the source of Kaytron Allen’s nickname “Fatman.”
When speaking about his nickname Kaytron Allen said, “It came from my mom, so when I was a baby I was fat. So, she named me “Fatman” as my nickname so it’s always stuck with me. Everybody calls me that in the city for real. I don’t really like Kaytron… I like Fatman way better for real.
It’s always interesting learning the source of a nickname, especially when it’s as unique as Fatman. Later in the interview, Allen speaks about his relationship with his mother and how much she means to him. It’s clear that Allen respects his mother’s wishes and loves her very much.
Kaytron Allen’s mother guided him to Penn State
As the two continue their conversation, Allen makes it clear that he wants to make his mother happy with his college choice. As he opens up on why he chose to come to Penn State.
When speaking about his recruitment Allen said “And my mom she just loved it… so I’d seen it in her eyes. So, I was like if my mom loves it then I love it.”
Now, it’s safe to say that Allen’s mother helped him make the right choice based on the success he had early on. He looks to build off an outstanding freshman season, by crushing some of his personal goals in 2023.
