Yet another former member of the Penn State football quarterback room is on the move. On Wednesday, ex-Nittany Lions quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson announced that he was leaving UConn and entering his name into the transfer portal for a second time. Roberson had seen some success for the Huskies but battled injury during his time in Storrs. With the move, Roberson becomes the third former Penn State quarterback to enter the portal this spring.

After two seasons in Storrs, Ta’Quan Roberson is on the move once again. The former Nittany Lions quarterback announced his decision to leave UConn via social media on Wednesday, the final day for graduate transfers to enter the portal in the spring window.

Roberson came to UConn from Happy Valley after entering the transfer portal following the 2021 season. Winning the Huskies’ starting job out of camp in 2022, Roberson suffered a season-ending leg injury in the second series of the season opener against Utah State.

Last fall, Ta’Quan Roberson went 197-338 for 2,075 with 12 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Roberson’s decision comes after UConn added former Oklahoma and Wisconsin quarterback Nick Evers from the transfer portal on Wednesday.

Ta’Quan Roberson saw limited action in his three seasons with Penn State football. The Orange, New Jersey native finished his Nittany Lion career going 11-29 for 85 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. His most significant playing time came in relief on an injured Sean Clifford in a 23-20 loss to then-No.3 Iowa in 2021.

It’s been an offseason of musical chairs for one-time Nittany Lion quarterbacks. With Wednesday’s decision from Ta’Quan Roberson, three former quarterbacks from the Penn State football roster have hit the transfer portal this spring.

Most noteworthy was Christian Veilleux, who started five games after transferring to Pitt last winter. On Wednesday, Veilleux announced his commitment to Georgia State.

Michael Johnson Jr. is also searching for a third college program after departing from FAU last week. The former three-star prospect has yet to announce a portal destination.
