Lackluster is a good word to describe the Nittany Lion offense last week. Penn State fell short against Ohio State once again. In a game where the defense and special team units continued to prove their value, the offense did not. Many are writing Drew Allar, Mike Yurcich, and others off already before the last five games of the season. But Penn State star offensive lineman Caedan Wallace has other thoughts on the offense as a unit ahead of today’s matchup with Indiana.

Penn State star believes offense will be ‘resilient’ against Indiana

The Penn State football offense went 1-16 on third-down attempts at Ohio State last week. The Nittany Lions only produced 240 yards of total offense against the Buckeyes, but they have a big opportunity to bounce back today. The Indiana Hoosiers are allowing 366 yards per game with 174 of those yards coming off from the rushing attack, Drew Allar has played very well at home and the expectation is that will continue today. Caedan Wallace spoke to the media earlier this week and was optimistic about the offense moving forward.

Wallace said, “I don’t want people to let one game define how they view our offense this year. I think we’re a good group of guys. We’re a tough group of people and we’re smart and resilient. So, with all of those qualities, I feel like that builds for a good offense. So, we’re just trying to stay focused and keep getting better and make our corrections.”

James Franklin expects wide receivers to step up

The wide receivers have been in the same position since this summer. We have been waiting for someone to emerge and separate from the pack. Last Saturday, it was clear that Penn State didn’t have the same firepower that Ohio State did from that position. James Franklin wants to see improvement in that position this week.

Franklin said, “Drew [Allar] needs some guys to make plays for him on a more consistent basis.”

If someone is going to step up today is a great day to show out. If Allar can get back to his normal self, the Nittany Lions can get back on track to finish the 2023 season strong. Kickoff is set for 12 PM EST on CBS.
