The glory days of the recent Penn State football success were between 2016 and 2019. Many of those seasons were led by Trace McSorley as the starting quarterback for the Nittany Lions. While many of us still have fond memories of No. 9 hoisting the Big Ten Championship trophy, he has taken advantage of his playing career after college. Now, reports state that McSorley has been contacted by the UFL to join its spring football league.

Former Penn State QB Trace McSorley offered next pro football opportunity

The UFL is the merger between the XFL and the USFL, both of which were spring football leagues created to help players revive their pro careers. If a player was banned or simply cut from an NFL team, both leagues gave them a chance to showcase their skills on the field to hopefully earn another shot at the NFL. Since having two competing leagues during the same season made resources and TV rights a challenge, the two leagues decided to merge ahead of the 2024 season.

Now, it has been reported by Mike Mitchell of Sports Illustrated that the UFL has contacted former Penn State football quarterback Trace McSorley about a potential playing opportunity.

McSorley’s NFL career

Trace McSorley has made the most of his 6th-round draft selection in the 2019 NFL draft by the Baltimore Ravens. Many did not believe he would even be a quarterback at the professional level, but like always, McSorley silenced his doubters.

He played with the Ravens between 2019 and 2021, going back and forth between practice squad and active roster status. He then joined the Arizona Cardinals midway through the 2021 season and was with them for 2022, as well. Last year, he signed with the Patriots before being cut. He then signed with the Bears and the Steelers practice squads throughout the end of last season.

Now, if he wants it, McSorley has a chance to put his skills on display in the UFL.
