We’ve reached the final four weeks of the 2023 regular season in the world of college football. That means that the official College Football Playoff rankings will be the source of truth moving forward over the AP Poll. The College Football Playoff selection committee gathers each week and shares their top 25 teams in the country. The Penn State football team is optimistic that they can prove themselves over the next three weeks of the regular season. But tonight their focus is on what their initial ranking is in the first edition of the College Football Playoff rankings in 2023 on ESPN.

Moving forward every Tuesday night until selection Sunday, we will learn the next edition of the college football playoff rankings. As Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, and the ESPN crew unveil the committee’s Top 25 teams in the country. They always claim that the ESPN crew doesn’t learn these rankings until the graphic is shown on TV. Now, the first edition has been made public.

The Penn State football team has earned the No. 11 ranking in the first edition of the College Football Playoff Top 25.

That number doesn’t exactly match the week 10 edition of the AP Poll which listed Penn State at No. 9 this week. The Nittany Lions will have a massive opportunity ahead of them over the next several weeks. Taking on Maryland, Michigan, and Rutgers. If they can get past all three teams that will help Penn State soar in the future rankings. Regardless of what the ranking is now, the team controls their destiny as long as they can win out. This is no small assignment, as they will play arguably their toughest part of the schedule in November.
