Penn State football comes into the 2023 season with one of the best running back duos in all of college football. While Nicholas Singleton has garnered much of the attention in the offseason, fellow sophomore Kaytron Allen is an electrifying tailback in his own right. Allen came into this year with big expectations, and he just checked a major milestone off his list, reaching 1,000 rushing yards for his career in today’s game against Delaware.

Penn State RB Kaytron Allen surpasses 1,000 career rushing yards against Delaware

As true freshmen, Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen wreaked havoc on Big Ten defenses last fall. With Allen’s 867 rushing yards and Singleton’s 1,061, the duo became the only true freshman teammates in Big Ten history to each rush for at least 700 yards in a single season. Allen had 10 rushing touchdowns last fall, the second-most by a freshman in Penn State history, only behind Singleton’s 12 scores.

After carrying the ball 10 times for 51 yards last week against West Virginia, Kaytron Allen came into today needing just 82 yards to reach 1,000 for his career. The sophomore tailback did that against Delaware, surpassing the mark on a 15-yard run in the 3rd quarter. Allen has 19 carries for 103 yards and 1 touchdown with 9:48 left in the 3rd quarter of today’s game against the Blue Hens.

Big goals still ahead for Allen

Kaytron Allen becomes the 48th player to rush for 1,000 career yards in Penn State football history, passing Cordell Mitchell on the Nittany Lions’ all-time rushers list. Nicholas Singleton was the 47th player to reach this milestone as a true freshman last year.

But Allen still has big plans for this 2023 season. “Yeah, I have a lot of personal goals,” he said of this year, in part, at Penn State football media day in August. “One of them is just getting to 1,000 yards [rushing] for the year…And as a team, win the Big Ten.”

As Penn State looks to move to a 2-0 start, it appears that Kaytron Allen is well on his way to all of these goals.
