Penn State QB Drew Allar has been the talk of the town around Happy Valley all offseason. That talk has been validated through two games of the 2023 season. Today, Allar faces a major test, as he makes his first career road start when Penn State football travels to Illinois for its Big Ten opener. While today’s test will be important for Allar’s growth and the Nittany Lions’ Big Ten title hopes, the Penn State QB has already made some history during today’s game, surpassing the 1,000 passing yard mark on his career.

Penn State QB Drew Allar reaches 1,000 passing yards for his career

Drew Allar hasn’t even finished his third game as a starter, but he has already lived up to the hype of his former five-star status. After throwing for 344 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games last season, Allar has racked up 529 yards and four scores through two games this fall.

Now, Penn State QB Drew Allar has joined the 1,000-yard club, passing the milestone in this afternoon’s game versus Illinois. Allar, who was 127 yards short of 1,000 coming into today, reached the milestone on a 33-yard pass to Liam Clifford on the final drive of the 2nd quarter. The pass set Penn State up for a field goal to take a 16-7 lead into halftime. Allar is 10-20 for 136 yards in the first half at Illinois.

Drew Allar becomes the 34th QB in Penn State football history to pass for 1,000 yards in his career, surpassing Matt Senneca on the Nittany Lions’ all-time passing list. While he still has a long way to go to reach Sean Clifford’s program record of 10,661 career passing yards, the future looks bright for the 19-year-old sophomore.
