Penn State football is in for a long offseason after suffering a 38-25 loss to Ole Miss in last week’s Peach Bowl. As it had for most of the year, the offense was the main Achilles’ heel for the Nittany Lions in the defeat. The offense will have a new feel under new OC Andy Kotelnicki next year, but many will still look to Drew Allar to take a step forward in year two as the starter. Allar recognizes that there is plenty of work to do before the Nittany Lions take the field against West Virginia in Week 1. The Penn State QB is already hitting the ground running, returning to the practice field with his personal coach while on break in Ohio.

WATCH: Drew Allar returns to practice field following Peach Bowl loss

Penn State QB Drew Allar put together a solid first season as the Nittany Lions’ starter. Even with obvious issues at the WR position, the 19-year-old managed to throw 25 touchdowns to only 2 interceptions.

However, there is still work to be done for the rising junior in year two. Like the rest of the offense, Allar struggled in Penn State’s biggest games of the season. Allar completed under 50% of his passes in all three games against top 15 competition, which, of course, all ended in defeat.

Drew Allar recognized the work ahead of him this offseason when speaking to the media after the Peach Bowl.

“There’s definitely a lot of areas I need to improve on,” he said. “Going into the spring and this offseason, I’m going to do everything in my power to get better every day. Whether it be off-the-field stuff, or training in the weight room, or out on the field mechanically and stuff like that, I’m going to do everything I can do to get us to that point.”

But Allar isn’t wasting any time getting back into things. On Friday, Allar’s personal QB coach, Brad Maendler, posted a video of the Penn State QB slinging it while on break back home in Ohio. You can watch the full video below.

Penn State QB “excited” to work with new OC Andy Kotelnicki

Penn State football aims to fix its offensive woes in 2023 by bringing in new OC Andy Kotelnicki. Touted for his work at Kansas over the past several seasons, Kotelnicki will now get to work with a much more talented roster at Penn State, led by the former five-star QB Drew Allar.

Only hired in early December, Andy Kotelnicki had a passive role in the Nittany Lions’ Peach Bowl prep. Still, Allar has had some time to get acquainted with his new play caller. And so far, the early returns are looking good.

“I’m just really excited for the future,” Allar said of Kotelnicki last month. “I think he brings an element to our offense where he’s just going to be able to relate to everybody. And I think he’s been doing that the last two weeks. [He’s been] setting up meetings just to get to know guys on more of a personal level, which I think is big for him.”
